GNDU organized an interactive session with Prof. B. Shadrach, Director, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi,
Prof. Harvinder Singh Saini, Dean Academic Affairs, welcomed Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr) Karamjeet Singh, Prof. B. Shadrach, and the faculty members present. He introduced Prof. Shadrach and highlighted the significance of interaction in context of emerging trends in higher education and digital transformation.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh emphasized that universities today must evolve beyond their traditional role as degree-awarding institutions and become centres of innovation, entrepreneurship, research, and skill development. He said that Guru Nanak Dev University is continuously aligning its academic programmes with the requirements of industry, emerging technologies, and National Education Policy 2020 to prepare students for the rapidly changing global landscape. Vice chancellor also highlighted Dr. B. Shadrach’s distinguished career spanning nearly four decades in the fields of educational technology, open and distance learning, digital transformation, and capacity building. He informed the gathering that Dr. Shadrach has worked with several leading international organizations, including the British Council, International Development Research Centre (Canada), and the Commonwealth of Learning, and has led educational and digital development initiatives in more than forty countries.

Dr. B. Shadrach appreciated Guru Nanak Dev University’s academic achievements and outlined the opportunities available under the University’s Category-I Graded Autonomy. He stressed that higher education institutions must adopt flexible learning models, strengthen collaboration with industry, and integrate digital technologies into teaching and learning to prepare graduates for future employment. He highlighted the growing importance of online and blended learning, micro-credentials, virtual laboratories, industry-oriented curriculum, and lifelong learning opportunities in enhancing the quality and accessibility of higher education.
Dr. Shadrach also shared several suggestions for further strengthening GNDU’s academic ecosystem, including expansion of online education, establishment of industry-supported research centres, development of short-term skill-oriented programmes, promotion of international collaborations, and greater utilization of digital learning platforms. He observed that Punjab possesses immense potential for knowledge-driven economic growth, and universities have a vital role in producing skilled human resources capable of contributing to the state’s industrial and technological development.
Faculty members actively participated in the interaction and held detailed discussions with Dr. Shadrach on academic innovation, digital education, curriculum reforms, research, and strategies for enhancing the employability of graduates through closer collaboration between academia and industry.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Registrar Prof. K. S. Chahal, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Shadrach for sharing his valuable insights and appreciated the active participation of the faculty members.
